This program helps maintain or reinforce solid writing practices and focus. Providing the “break talks” are very helpful, reminding all of us how to break things down and pace.

Saturday Write-Ins

Saturday Write-Ins are held on the fourth Saturday of every full month of the semester on Mountaintop in Building C, room 307.

Spring 2024 dates are as follows: 

Graduate writers can use this time to work on their own writing while knowing that others are also writing. Writers are welcome to stay for the entire session or to enter or leave the session as their schedule permits, and they may attend as many or as few as they find useful. In-person and virtual participation is available.

Registration is required. Registration is free and registrants will be asked to choose 1 mode of participation.

Weekend Writing Retreat

This semester's Weekend Writing Retreat will be held on the weekend of Graduate Appreciation Week on Mountaintop in the Iacocca Hall Tower Room.

Spring 2024 dates are April 20 & 21 (register here)

Graduate students work on their own writing while knowing that others are also writing. In-person and virtual participation is available. Optional workshops and learning opportunities will also be offered during the weekend.

Registration is required. Registration for both days is $20 and for one day only is $15. Registrants will be asked to choose 1 mode of participation.

Working Group

If you are a STEM student who is a rising senior, rising first- or rising second-year graduate student and are planning on applying for the NSF GRFP fellowship in the fall, this group is for you.

This group will meet 2 times per month in June, July, and August. 
Once the semester begins, we will meet at least once per week in September and October.

The group works as both accountability partners and peer reviewers. We will discuss application expectations and will help each other during the drafting process.

Meeting time, place, and venue (i.e., f2f or virtual) will be determined by the group members.

Title: Technical Writing: The Importance of Honing Your Skills to Increase Employability and Value in the Workplace

Topic: In this session, we will discuss the importance of technical writing and how it is utilized throughout various professions across sectors. At first, we might not realize how heavily writing is involved across a large spectrum of professions and the importance of honing this skill to better market ourselves. For those whose formal education has been heavy writing-focused, we will also discuss how to draw on this skill and integrate it into a career that increases our employability and value in the workplace.

About the Speaker: Emily Folenta, MA is a graduate of Lehigh University ’16, ’17, holding a Master of Arts in Environmental Policy Design with a graduate certificate in Sustainable Development and was a Community Fellow with Lehigh Valley Health Network’s Department of Community Health during her time as a graduate student. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Health, Medicine, and Society (Public Health). Emily is an affordable housing advocate and environmentalist with seven years of experience in affordable housing and community development initiatives related to strategic planning, grant writing, program and policy development, project management, and nonprofit management and leadership. She has worked for various Lehigh Valley nonprofits and is currently self-employed.
