What is a 4 + 1 program?

4 + 1 programs are accelerated bachelors/masters degrees whereby students combine their undergraduate degree studies with graduate-level courses such that they are able to bridge from undergraduate to graduate programs seamlessly with the result being that they earn both their Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in 5 years. Participating undergraduate students start earning credits toward their master’s degree while pursuing their undergraduate studies, thus positioning themselves to fulfill their graduate degree requirements in just one year post-baccalaureate program.

The value of undertaking a 4 + 1 Accelerated Program is especially evident when it comes to marketplace opportunities. Having an earned master’s degree is more and more common in the workplace, and graduate study allows students to build new skills or expand existing ones. A master’s degree enables the student to continue along their undergraduate discipline path or to widen their career opportunities with complementary skills. Opportunities for study also exist in programs that reside outside of the student’s undergraduate college, providing for interdisciplinary learning that builds one’s professional credentials.

4 + 1 Accelerated Programs are offered across the following four colleges:
